Duni to Beef Up Airlaid Business

Line upgrade to benefit tabletop business.

Duni plans to invest SEK50 million, or about $6 million, to upgrade an existing airlaid line in Skapafors, Sweden. The investment will increase  airlaid capacity at the Rexcell facility by about 25% annually. The plan is to have the capacity upgrade installed during the second quarter of 2018. Duni’s airlaid material is utilized in producing Duni’s key napkin brands including Dunilin and Dunisoft.

“This investment comes at a time when demand for premium materials for napkins is on a rise. As a market leader in airlaid napkins across Europe, we will now have additional capacity to respond effectively to customer demand”, says Johan Sundelin, President and CEO of Duni AB.

In 2015, Duni narrowed the focus of its airlaid business exclusively on the tabletop business as part of a plan first announced in February 2013 when Duni said it was going to sell its hygiene-centric Dals Langed plant and concentrate all of its business in Skapafors. The Dals Langed site was eventually shuttered after Duni failed to find a buyer.
